Took the plunge, and the water is fine...

So I took the Mac plunge yesterday afternoon, and I've got to say...the water is fine! I picked up the 1.83 Macbook w/ a 60 gig iPod. I'm having fun setting up my macbook with all the features I want on it, but since I'm new to the macworld I'm kind of at a loss.

Aside from a network hiccup last night, the wireless connection has been relatively good. Ease of use is incredible,but there are the growing pains with going from a pc to a mac. Learning the shortcuts in Firefox has been a challenge,and I'm not sure what extensions will port over easily to the Mac version of Firefox.

I got the 60 gig HD with it, but when I checked last night I had just a shade under 40 gigs available...this was before I put ANY music on here at all. I'm not too worried b/c I'll bump up the HD soon enough, but losing btw 15 and 20 gigs was strange.

I'm in the market for some accessories, and I think I've decided on a sleeve. I'd like a keyboard cover of some sort and also something to plug into the ports on the left side. Any suggestions?

Thanks to everyone for your help in helping me make a decision. So far I'm thrilled, and I'm excited to keep learning how to use this thing.

The default OS X installation, bundled with iLife and trial versions of iWork and Microsoft Office will add up to about 20 gb.

If you install the full system with language recognition and all plugins you use a lot of HD space, if you want more space only install the components you use.

So is there a way to "uninstall" or do I need to do a clean install if I want that HD space back? I'm thinking I'll just wait until I put in a bigger HD and enjoy what I've got now.

I've just realized that the signal strength from our router is very weak in our bedroom (only about 10 feet away, but through a wall) but is stronger (obviously) in the room where the router is. It's the Linksys wrt54g, so I need to look into those problems. However, I can pick up other networks in our building almost no problem...not that I do that, though.

Enjoy your machine and I believe you can buy something (I dont know what they are called it looks like a pole) that will help you pick up a stronger signal they arent too expensive either

That is odd, since my PowerBook gets full strength in my bedroom, about 25-30 feet away from my wrt54g router, with several walls between. And the PB is not known for good wifi reception.

This may help you to pinpoint exactly what is taking up HD space...
