GOD BLESS THE COOLBOOK GUY. He is cool imo. Thanks to him my macbook air actually is usable. I ran two video streaming video, then a dvd. Both Cores, according to the activity monitor never reached more than 50%. Best ten bucks I ever spent.

Those still holding out, tell apple to **** off, and give the coolbook guy your $$$. I can actually use the air now. As some people have stated, the coolbook interface is not the best, however, it is very usable and the fact that it prevents the core shutdowns is a blessing!!!!!

I've never used coolbook because my cores never shut down when I watch youtube or videos... But I have to say that it does start sounding like a ****ing hoover vacuum which is very annoying knowing that I spent $3000 for a computer.

Thats why I'm going to buy a normal pc laptop and use this one as a piece of decoration... which is the only thing its useful for...

I don't mean to sound like such a sales man but the coolbook software is worth it. It definitely makes the fans quieter on normal web brouseing not to mention making the hand rest cooler. I've honestly fallen in love with my air but still pissed off of the way apple has handled the situation.

It does seem strange people are happy with a solution to slow your MBA down. It's like buying a Ferrari and sticking a Golf GTi engine in there. O.k. it's still pretty fast, but it's not what you paid for.

Sorry to disagree but it doesn't slow the Air down. Quite the opposite since both cores continue to run it speeds it up. The main difference is that Coolbook lowers the voltage to the core but doesn't cut the frequency.

Fair point, I thought reducing voltage would slow the speed down, after all dropping my lightbulb voltage to 110v would reduce its output somewhat.

If it's not the case then Apple should buy the tech and give to MBA owners FOC.

This come up in evvvery Coolbook thread. There is no performance hit!!!!!

If you take the voltage too low you will see problems obviously, but just take things one tick up until everything is stable again and you are all set. Same exact performance as before.

Im on an iPhone so I can't cut and past right now. I'll come back to this thread tonight.

Anyway Im using the original coolbook settings I found on here with 800mhz at .9volts and up to 1600mhz at .987 (ithink that's the voltage). I'll check later tonight after work. Same for both battery and adapter settings. Its amazing how much cooler the laptop runs then with out. I have not done any battery test but it should run longer than without the software.

I've running flash and QuickTime, as well as USB backups. I tried to watch a full QuickTime DVD and before it used to lock up but not know. I don't play games so I don't have experience with that.

I'm going to try to lower the voltage on the battery to 600mhz and see if it can still run.

This software is worth the try and you receive the authorization code within 3mins of paying, well at least I did.

Coolbook has made my MBA useable. I was experiencing core shutdown when using iMovie. Genius bar told me "that's how it's designed." I told them it's crazy that I experience sluggish performance while using an app that shipped preinstalled on the machine. Anyways, now it "just works."
I'm on a 1.8/80 MBA purchased in Feb 2008.
I tried Coolbook with all of the settings (except 600,800 which only allow .9000) one step lower but had occasional kernel panics so I bumped them up to these.
Adapter:
800 .9000
1200 .9250
1400 .9500
1600 .9750
1800 .9875

Battery:
600 .9000
800 .9000
1200 .9250

I decided to throw in the 600 setting on battery and have noticed no decreased performance. I have not made and quantitative assessments about battery life but it seems a little snappier.

I also sent an email to Steve Jobs requesting a $10 reimbursement (via iTunes credit) for the Coolbook charge to make my MBA "just work."

Here are pictures of both of my settings. The pic is my adapter settings, however both adapter and battery settings are the same.

I want to try a more aggressive setting for the batter like maybe 600mhz for the lowest at .9volts and remove the 1600mhz and just stick to 1200mhz. Essentially controlling the max processing speed while on the battery in order to conserve battery life. I wish they add some form of profiles. Like maybe a normal profile and a less aggressive profile that lowers the mhz in relation to the volts.

edit: i just noticed since I added 700mhz -> .9volt setting. I'm seeing 37 degrees Celcius... OMG! That's crazy my air hand rest is cool to the touch while websurfing! That's crazy!!!

Does anyone here go all the way to 600mhz???

Just to clarify, anytime the computer sees load, it ramps up the speed instantly. For example, when I synced my iphone, it bumped it to 1.6ghz instantly, then back down to 800 then 700mhz after the sync completed. So yeah, there is no performance hit.
