Yeah, I went ahead and did it.
I ordered the 12" ibook AND Mighty Mouse from Amazon, and when it's all said and done, I'll have only paid $800 for everything.
I finally reasoned that since I got the mouse as a bonus and didn't pay any tax or shipping, this price was unbeatable, even if I waited a few more weeks for Apple to drop the prices on the outdated ibook. And even if I had waited, for all I know I may not have gotten one of the last few.
Anyway, I just wanted to make sure you all checked out the top computer sellers on Amazon. Apple OWNS that list.
Peace. :D

Thanks in part to the iPod "halo effect", we are seeing renewed interest in Macs. I know lots that wouldn't ordinarily give Macs a second look, are considering getting one, (I guess I am included in that).

Prices are dropping, (making them more competitive), software will soon be more readily available, (with the x86 transition), and the myths about Macs are finally getting dispelled. We may see even greater numbers of switchers in the next few years.

I went right ahead and got another 512 from Crucial as soon as I finished my Amazon order. It wasn't the cheapest place to get it, but I knew it'd be reliable. Plus, maybe I'm crazy, but it looks like those older RAM chips are getting more expensive. I figured it'd be better to pay $60ish now than more later.

Me too... sorta

Hey, congrats on the purchase! Great price. I was tempted, but opted for the 12" Powerbook instead. Figuring in the cost to upgrade the hard drive in the iBook, the Powerbook wasn't that much more than the 12" iBook I considered. Plus I really prefer the Powerbook's keyboard. I don't really *need* a laptop, but I've been *wanting* one to compliment my iMac. Like you, I reasoned this was a great price, and with my luck I wouldn't catch one of these if they do get cleared out early next year. So, I'm just counting this as an early Christmas gift to myself!

Enjoy your new iBook!

Congrats on the new iBook! I just ordered a second iMac (a refurb Rev B G5) for home direct from Apple. We needed another Mac for my son when he comes home from college, and the refurb prices are great. Maybe we can finally get rid of my wife's Win98 comouter!
