iPad Pro Top 3 iPad Pro features we Must have. Across the board.

Let’s make this quick and universal I’m not asking for 4K HDR OLED in 2020 these are Software, Firmware Updates we just need.

#1. Multiple Users and Logins I can’t stress this enough
#2. 120Hz Web Browser support Why Have one of the biggest iPad Pro features 120hz ProMotion go Unused heck I never know when it’s in effect or not, I need a Settings toggle to enable 120hz always or Adaptive and 100% when scrolling web pages. So many cellphones will be releasing or are available with 90hz or 120hz Displays and they look amazing.
The Text on the map link below should be readable as I’ve seen on other 120hz Devices cellphones or 144hz Gaming displays it needs to be functional on our iPad Pros.

#3. Lastly we would all benefit from full fledge Mouse support what we have now is meh “an accessibility feature” Apple needs to take this serious and patch things Enhance Support for high end Gaming Mice via USB-C (I’m gonna need it for Diablo Immortal)

For my personal needs, I want primarily one thing.

True external monitor support. Not just mirroring, including the aspect ratio, but true monitor support that will allow the for the desktop to adjust to your monitor. It exists supposedly in a handful of apps, but it would be nice if it fit the whole screen.

It would complete heaven if it allowed for screen rotation as well, for a nice large canvas to work on. Or even playing the occasional puzzle game oversized. 🤭

I feel like the iPad software is what needs to make that big jump in order to justify the hardware.

Aperture for iPad:
Photos still feels like an iPhone app. We've got Pencil (and Mouse 1.0) support so give us some real photo editing software

Final Cut for iPad:
- No it doesn't have to be "Pro" but it definitely shouldn't be iMovie. USB-C + Pencil + Keyboard + Mouse support is already here. The hardware is ready so bring on the software.

Family Updates: (Apple just doesn't seem to understand how actual families work)
- Multiple Users. This shouldn't be a school only feature.
- Photo sharing. Family Share allows us to share Storage, Apps, Movies and Music subscriptions. But it doesn't allow the sharing of Photo Libraries?!?!?


For me, I recently upgraded my 2016 iPad Pro 9.7 to an iPad Pro 11. While I appreciated all the differences that make this a clear hardware upgrade, in terms of actual use then I'm doing nothing different because the limitations has always been in the software. I'm returning it and downgraded back to my 9.7. I still want to upgrade but I'm going to see if Apple actually announces anything new in March.

I kind of like the idea of having a tablet capable of doing everything, but on the other hand it makes more sense to invest research and engineering efforts in the Mac to do all of these things noted above (except multi-user support). They're portable, powerful, have mouse input, the only thing missing is touch (which doesn't make sense if you're doing anything Pro).

This might be an unpopular opinion - the iPad already tries to do too much and Apple should scale it down and invest more in the Mac.

I'm curious but what do you see is a problem on the Mac that can be solved with "allocating more resources from iPad"?

As someone who just returned their MacBook Pro 16 then I have to say that the MBP16 is a nearly perfect machine... that should have come out 3 years ago. Theres no technological limitations that prevented us from getting this years ago. The problem was (and will still be) Apple and their strategic marketing.

That said, I love the new MacBook Pro but returned it due to a hardware issue. I intended to go right back to ordering it again but the more I thought about how I used it for the last few weeks the more I see how 90% of those tasks could have been done on an iPad. I'm all for improving Macs but to be honest I dont know where exactly these improvements are going to go. Right now I'm back on my 2012 MacBook Pro 15 (user upgraded 16GB Ram and 2x1TB SSD) and all I can see is how little Macs have changed and how little room there is for improvement. But iPads.... now that's an arena that has the potential for so much more.

Top 3 iPad Pro features we Must have. Across the board

There's no across the board, universal needs that everyone will agree on. Everyone is different.

I don't need multiple users or logins and never will. Mouse support would be a great addition, but it most likely won't be something I use consistently. My iPad is something I use on the go, traveling, in bed, or for browsing. In most of these environments sitting at a surface to appropriately use a mouse isn't feasible. Though I do recognize that this is a feature the iPads should have had a long time ago.

My top three are:
1. File Browser/Manager (no more extremely slow iCloud or clunky Files.app workarounds)
2. True external monitor support
3. Native network storage support

Basically I'd love an iPad that would allow me to edit photos, organize them, and then offload them onto external storage. Having to use Airdrop or iCloud to move things around is time consuming, slow, and/or painful. Some other things I'd like to eventually see in the next 5 years would be: A sophisticated windowing / panel API specifically so that a complex apps like photoshop can have multiple panels. Redesigned home screen that can be a drag & drop shelf and a desktop for files.

But when asking about the iPad Pro... it’s more about the hardware? And not the software. Because the only thing that separates the iPad Pro from any other iPad, is FaceID and USB-C support.

And, by following that logic... It’s not many features I would want. Let alone providing 3 features. Maybe the only thing I can think of is more functionality with those pins in the back of the iPad.

I want Apple to introduce something specifically for the iPad Pro. Whereas it separates it from other iPads, like some type of accessory that could be used to charge accessories. Perhaps something to do with wireless charging.

Sorry OP, I don’t care too much about your top 3 features haha. My top 3 in order would be:
- Time Machine for iPad with ability to restore individual files and apps
- remote iPhone function (use my iPhone entirely from my iPad)
- ability to minimize apps that need to keep running

Runner ups:
- system-wide handwriting recognition
- better QuickPath keyboard
- more keyboard shortcuts
- better method to invoke split screen apps

Of course what we also really need are higher functioning apps.

Just to be clear, if it’s not mirrored, then you’d be interacting with the second screen with the accessibility mouse, right?

It could do that.

What I really meant, which I wasn't clear, is that I want to have the second screen be flexible in how it presents your content.

In the case of Procreate, it's a simple projection of your entire canvas/project on the second screen. While on the iPad you can zoom in on parts of your work with your menu options still. This allows you to see what effect your work has on the entire project, while you are zoomed in, which is a nice little touch.

I would just appreciate that kind of flexibility on my second screen.

It might be nice on a document to be able to see whole long work on the monitor on a rotated screen while I work on one page. On Procreate or any other art app, that might be nice as well. As you may see your canvas actual size on the rotated second monitor, while you are zoomed in working on one area on the iPad.

This is a very interesting idea. Out of curiosity, what would you use it for? I like this idea, although I would go more for missing functionality that’s only present on iPhones to just make their way to the iPad (things like the phone app and such) as well as the ability to control playback from the iPhone on the iPad (and vice versa) from Now Playing.

If iPhone only apps would launch into a slideover view that mimics an iPhone’s aspect ratio that would be fantastic. I’m tired of having iPhone apps take up the entire screen on an iPad and be forced into portrait mode to boot. I want to be able to stay on an ASK in landscape mode and fire up an app like Instagram and just have if float there in an iPhone like orientation.

An offshoot to that - more needs to be done to force apps to support multitasking in split and slideover view. It sucks having to push an app that you want to be your primary focus into slideover view just because the other app you want to reference from doesn’t support multitasking at all. For example sometimes I’ll be browsing in safari and a friend will fire up a Hangouts text conversation. Since Hangouts doesn’t support multitasking I have to make it the main app and Safari a slideover one. I know this is Google’s fault for not updating their app but if they’re not going to do it then it would be great if iOS would then just force Hangouts into a window that is the same aspect ratio as an iPhone app and treat that as a slideover app window.

All of this really boils down to scalability of app windows.

Yeah ideally the iPad would have its own native version of all the iPhone’s functions, but that might not happen soon, if ever, for some things (not that I see this remote function happening soon either). Things like checking voicemail/missed calls, apps that have a number-of-devices limit, apps that don’t sync between devices. And then there are photos or other data that happen to be on my phone only.
This would be really useful for me because when I‘m at home, I like to leave my iPhone charging, and only use my iPads (mini for casual use, 12.9 for work).

My features are software -
- Sidecar to work the other way - iPad to Mac.
- Files app to stream Audio and Video content stored in iCloud.
- Split screen for every app, specifically so games could run on half the screen - especially useful on the 12.9''
- A means of changing appearance settings (background, dark mode, text size, audio on/off etc) across all iOS and Mac devices, so call them 'Shared Settings'
- Multi User for iOS - Work and Personal Life.
- A proper menu in settings for Mouse, Keyboard and Touch pad.

The crazy ones -
- 'Mac' Mode so works like boot camp but for an iPad to boot in to a Mac with a paired keyboard and mouse.
- eGPU mode. Hardware issue and software support needs to be there.

For me 1, 2 & 3 has got to be “more ram”. Procreate is so hampered for me now by the ram ceiling

That is my issue exactly. I like to leave my phone charging when I’m home and it’s frustrating to not be able to do (relatively basic, IMO) things on my fully capable iPad.
