Looked briefly at that list. What an odd list. No mention of WoW for Mac?

Also, I just found out that Pathfinder Online is coming to Mac OSX (although the game, for both PC and Mac is still a long ways from release).

Here's the link for anyone interested. It is kind of buried there already.

And thanks for sharing this info. I wasn't aware that Ryzom was available for Mac and better still as a free download from the MAS. Downloading now. I had a friend who used to play this and said it was pretty fun. She knew a few people there and they were all playing together. So that entry in the list was a nice surprise. I'll be checking it out when I find some time for it.

LoTRO and Guild Wars 2 are fitting entries but I am surprised that WoW and DDO are both missing. Those should have made the list easily.

Without WoW it's a bogus list. Thanks for the link! Lufftubby, next time give us a break and include a link when referencing an online article. :)

Do these people actually know anything about anything ?

Runescape yes it does run in browsers, but it does have its own Mac Client and has had for quite sometime now.

Guild Wars 2 is NOT a stand alone Mac Client, it is a Transgaming Cider Wrapper hence the reason it is still showing as BETA

Also I went to the App Store and chose to download Ryzom, it asked for my login, next step it asked for my card details for payment, it says its FREE, so I backed out.

I played guild wars 2 on the Mac for four months or so. I've heard it's very demanding in the Mac environment but the 675mx on my iMac handled it no problem. It ran fine with the exception of a very rare camera glitch that went away by relogging in. Guild wars 2 is an impressive game. Constant dynamic automatic and triggered events makes it really fun. I think I burned myself out on it playing to many hours straight.

RIFT (Windows Only sadly) has those type of events but they are better than the Guild Wars 2 ones. I did one tonight it was crazy, just loads of players all forming public groups and charging about all the place, real blast and fun. If you Like MMORPGs then its worth running Bootcamp just to play this, and its FREE as in you do not have to buy the game, just download it from their site, and then you can buy in game stuff like GW2, and you can subscribe if you wish, do not know if it will run under Vmware or Parallels.

Yup I did a burn out thing on GW2 I played and played until my Character was level 80, completed my storyline and i had 95% of the world map complete, not really been back into since.

Yeah, I think what was bogus about the list was it was too short. I think that was done up by somebody who isn't actually into MMOs really or something.

I don't think Guild Wars 2 is still considered beta because of Cider. That isn't likely to change. They chose it as the quick and dirty way to produce the port and that's that. It's still in beta because I assume it is still having some issues being fixed (hopefully) and until they are and then those fixes are tested, beta is not over.

I'm assuming the App Store was asking you for payment info? I downloaded Ryzom without paying anything for it from the App store. It is really free to download. The App Store as far as I know would only ask for payment details if they do not have them on file or if the ones they do have on file have an expired payment method. Maybe the card you setup with MAS is expired, got a new one from the bank or something?

Strange that App Store payment thing, I only bought something the other week so I know all my details are OK, I may give it another go.

How do the Ryzom people make money ?

No idea. I haven't tried it yet and probably won't for a little while as I'm busy with some other games. I imagine they have a cash shop selling stuff or whatever. No idea if the f2p model is okay or not or what. I'm sure they must need to make money somehow. But at least the it is free to download and take it for a spin to see if it is worth paying anything to play it.

Ryzom has subscription based system similar to WoW, only it's cheaper.

I myself could not get into Ryzom. It's a horribly looking game with no apparent sense of why you should care about it.

Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder as they say. I know some friends of mine from EverQuest had some fun there.

Also, the game runs with a free to play model and does not require any CC info to login and play. I imagine like most of them it also offers a sub to remove all restrictions for those that prefer that.

For more info about the game for those interested, see this page on MMORPG.com:

http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/36/Ryzom.html

where they gave it a 7.3 and users gave it a 7.8 score.

Ha! You got me there.:D

I tend to be picky about games. After all, time is the most precious investment and I would much rather waste it on things overflowing with quality.:)

But yeah, the starting area was pretty crowded with other players so I guess it's popular enough. Just didn't grab me.:)
