Best iPhone: XS. It's compact, fast, great camera.
Best Android: S9. It's compact, fast, good camera.
Best phablet: Note 9, mostly because it has more features for managing the size like one handed mode.

The XS Max to me is unrealized potential. Software doesn't make good use of its larger size and at least for me it's too big - the reason I went with iPhone this time was that aside from S9 and something from Sony, most Android phones are too big for me.

I simply laugh how people think there are only Samsung, Pixel, or OnePlus in Android world.

Best budget: Pocophone F1
Best camera: Huawei P20 Pro
Best all rounder: Nokia 7.1 Plus

If your just asking 'Merican's, yeah maybe the iPhone for most people, as it goes well with other popular high sale items like the Big Mac hamburger, and Toyota Camry. The iPhone fits in with those .

But worldwide ? I'd say a mid range Android phones are most popular

Define best?

Best reception and ability to hang on to a weak signal: Samsung
Best screen: Samsung
Best attempt at desktop replacement: Samsung
Best MFA: Samsung
Best total package: Samsung
Best notchless design: ZTE Nubia X
Best bang for the buck: OnePlus 6T and countless others
Best supersized device: Huawei Mate 20X
Best battery capacity: Huawei
Best profit margin: Apple

Right at this moment I'm brainstorming for the best device for devops for use with Termux and T-UI and leaning towards the Huawei Mate 20X.
