This is a question about the difference between the "Top OEM" and "Global Smartphone Market Share".

We can all agree that the biggest players in the market are Apple and Samsung. Statista says that Samsung has a greater market share, but comScore says Apple has a higher OEM. Is there a difference between the two, or do one of the data collection companies have the data wrong?

As a side note, who do you think will be the leader in number of mobile phones in user's hands one year from now?

Sorry but this poll is DOA...Samsung has a large margin in total devices sold per year and that won't be changing any time soon.

What do you mean by Top OEM? Higher market share, or higher profits?

If it is profits, then Apple clearly rules the roost, out-earning the rest of the entire industry many times over.

I suppose a debate could be raised about which is more meaningful - market share or profits, but that has pretty much been done to death, IMO.

Samsung provide phones at price points as little as £10 all the way up to £800, so naturally they will sell more devices worldwide than anybody.

Apple makes more profit and have lead the flagship market in the past for devices sold but that is just one market segment and the only one Apple compete in. Samsung spreads itself very wide in comparison and reaches markets like Eastern Europe, Russia and India where lower priced devices are popular and can boost number for overall marketshare. You'd have to ask the manufacturers whether they would prefer more profit or devices sold in a business sense. It doesn't make much difference to the consumer as long as they can get the phone they want.

Both companies do very well in what they set out to achieve.
