Well we learned a few things here...

1) The Lock Screen works top up in all four orientations, including upside down.

2) Putting the iPad upside down on a flat surface hits the "Sleep" Button.

3) Letterman is getting a bit too old.

That's an interesting thought on the sleep/wake button.

Maybe a button like the battery status button found on the side of MacBooks would have been a better choice?

Not really an issue, but something to be concious of when putting the ipad down.

He either had a defective unit or something - because something didn't seem to work right.

And Letterman might be older - but believe me - that's not what drove his humor or seemingly lack of "getting it".
