Top Up $500 from CD MBP to C2D MBP, Wise Or Not???

Hi,
My friend want to buy my precious CD MBP 15" 2.0 Ghz, 2GB, 100GB, Ati 256 MB. For about $1500.
I checked the lowest Price for the current C2D MBP is $1999
15" 2.16 Ghz, 1GB, 120GB, Ati 128 MB.

So in total i will have to top up about $500.

Do you think is a good move?

I never have any Problem with my old CD MBP apart from a small whinning when running from battery power, and temp can reach about 80C when full loads, but it never hang or shutdown by itself.

Actually i don't really need high speced mac, i only do web browsing, itunes converting, and adobe photoshop. But i don;t like macbook cause the screen is to Small for me, my ideal size is 15.4"

So do you guys think $500 is worth it for newer proccesor ?
and is there any other advantages that i don;t know ?

and lastly the only thing that concerned me is the VRAM 128MB vs 256MB does it really make a huge different ?
cause from what i know they are both clokced at the same speed.

and will CD or C2D run the coming Leopard just fine?
Cause from what i know , the Leopard is 64bit OS.

The thing I really like about the C2D MacBook Pro is they don't have the whine and they don't get nearly as hot. It made it an easy decision for me but if you get a good rev. A MBP then you can save some real cash.

CD will run Leopard wonderfully so don't worry about that.

I have a CD MBP, RevA 15" w/ radeon256MB and 7200rpm HDD. If you game or drive external monitors, more VRAM is better, if not it probably won't matter. Glad I got mine, don't like the HDD options for the 15" now. I'll stick with this MBP for a while.

heh, just got a second replacement battery, seems my first one died so early, they replaced it with another from the bad batch. Looks like this new battery may last till the end of "The Incredibles".

i dont game a lot
but i do play games like NBA 2006 or Fifa Soccer 2006
will the 128 MB of VRAM handle this properly ?
i had no problem on playing it in my curernt 256MB VRAM MBP.

Just to note, the X1600 in your CD is pretty significantly underclocked. The new C2D MBP's have the X1600 in both versions clocked at 415/445 or so (much closer to the stock 470/470 speeds of the X1600). You would probably find that even with the base model, even though it has less VRAM, you might see better performance overall anyway.

how good of a friend is he? that would suck if you sold it to him at the same price he could get elsewhere.

$1500 is way low for your computer.

Maybe if he offered $1850 I'd say go for it. Look at it this way, you're paying $500 for less ram, less vram, a slight bump in CPU and GPU speed.

No where near worth it in my eyes.

Not to mention you probably have to pay tax on the newer MBP.
