I have in the last few weeks been working on a few simple mac applications but so far I haven't found any references or any information about creating applications which run in the top bar like google notifier - http://i44.tinypic.com/30kc1mt.jpg

Could anyone point me in the right direction?, even just by telling me what applications which run there are called.

Thanks.

Maybe because you're searching for "top bar" applications. It's called the menu bar, and those are status icons (I think).

Those applications are just processes without windows that create a status icon in the menu bar.

Thank you, I wasn't searching for top bar but I wasn't sure if had a different name or if it was the menu bar as well.

In case anyone else wants a push in the right direction it is called NSStatusBar
