I'm thinking of selling my iPad 3G and replacing it with the 11" 128GB MBA. I know iOS 4.2 is right around the corner and with that comes multi-tasking, folders, printing, etc. --pretty much making the iPad a lethal piece of portable kit. However, I've been charmed by the sexy-sleekness of the new MBA 11" offering. Am I becoming consumed with superficial gadget-lust or would having an MBA as an iPad replacement be somewhat logical? On battery life alone, I know the iPad 3G's 9 hours decimates the MBA's 5 to 5.5 hour battery life.

My eight ball says "both". ;) It is a very reasonable replacement move and with the MBA you get the upgraded perks of having, well, a real computer! There are many around here posting of doing the same so don't beat yourself up to bad.

I personally use both my MBA & iPad as there are things I can do on one but not the other. I like to think that they compliment each other. If I had to choose between the 2 and could only have one I would stick with the MBA for the versatility, there are just somethings easier done on the MBA then the iPad.

Well do you need a computer with all the functions that it comes with (Keyboard, Larger Screen, Webcam, Processor Power, Storage etc..) or do you need something more simple to complete your tasks.

If one of these machines were to be your main portable machine and you depend on it for portability I think I would rather go with the MBA (its pretty close to the size of the iPad).

It would be a logical replacement. But the world's not going to run out of 11" MBAs tomorrow, maybe wait for iOS 4.2 and see if it revolutionizes that ol' iPad for you. If not, to the Apple Store!
