Torn on what to do, keep my iMac or sell it...

I think I've kind of made my mind up on this but for me to justify something fully I need to see if my reasoning is logical!

I'm a 'mature' student that's just started university this year. The course I was doing prior to that I was mainly using my iMac, till i got my MBP and since then I've mainly been using my MBP. During the summer break I never really even used my iMac and even since starting university I find myself to be using my MBP for the obvious reasons of the portability thing. Now I feel bad that my 9 month old 27" iMac just sits on a desk collecting dust.

I am reluctant to sell it, I've toyed with the idea before and decided against it but I kinda could do with the money, this mature student thing is hard on the financial strings.

What should I do, let it collect dust or sell it to a new home that will give it the love and attention that it needs? lol
 
If you don't use it, you could just sell it. Its value is going down everyday so if you let it collect dust, you'll be losing money.
 
sell it now, as its still under apple warranty it might sell , but be prepared to lose quiet a lot money , as in the first year the iMac's lose the most money as you have to sell lower then a refurbished one sold by apple
 
Imacs do loose their value, but my experience has been that they don't depreciate as quickly as PCs. Regardless, if you want to sell it, do it sooner rather than later.
 
I disagree. Macs maintain their value extremely well. You may lose a hundred bucks under the price of a refurb. Those 27's are a very hot commodity. Craigslist and you'll drop it in a day or two...assuming it's damage free.

That said, I also disagree with selling it. You mention the fact that you're a mature student...I'm assuming that means you'll be graduated soon? Settling down? When you're into you're new career with a home, I think you'll find it's more useful, and nice to have it's capabilities at home. Whether you enjoy photography, video, having more real estate for document work, more storage for media, et al...there are definitely "other" uses for your iMac. Those dandies last a ling time. I'm still sporting one of the first c2d's at my office...17" with a single gig of ram. Five years old and works like a charm. They last forever and they're STILL worth cash when you've finished with it:) I just bought a 15" g4 PB for $500...6 years old and excellent condition. They have the standard pcmica slot, perfect for our video offloads in the field...but I digress. Macs last a long time....and you'll find uses for it as you make the life change from student to career, IMHO.

I think if you haven't used it in months, are not currently using it and don't foresee using it much or at all in the future, sell it and make a few dollars something that you do have need of right now.
