Finally got hold of a mini-toslink adapter so that I can plug my mbp into my HT setup. Which socket does this thing go into? - I plug it into the one nearest the magsafe to no avail but when I plug it into the headphone socket it seems to auto-sense what kind of connection is present and I have digital output - is this how it's designed to work? and if this is the case - what's the socket nearest the magsafe for?

PS - found the toslink adapter on ebay for $2.99 + about $3 shipping - far and away the cheapest I could find
