I've got a Mac Pro Early 2009 running ML.

Everything has been fine until a few days ago, whereupon the entire system will lockup with the spinning ball of death after 10-15 minutes.

No software was installed or modifications made prior to this happening.

Things I've tried so far:

  1. Reboot: After rebooting it still happens even with nothing running.
  2. Re-installed ML
  3. Swapped the memory with another identical machine

Any ideas?

I meant boot drive, regardless whether it's spinning or not :)
SSDs can die as well. Try another drive. Check what's logged in system.log in console.
