Sorry this if this is totally obvious, but I can't work it out and I've googled everywhere for an answer...

I am trying to resize a single component of a picture in Photoshop Elements (not the whole picture). Basically, I have drawn a circle and I want to make it exactly 2cm across. It is in its own layer.

So... I can select and drag to resize. But this does not let me choose the exact dimensions.

Or... I can choose "resize-->scale" but this only lets me type in a percentage (percentage of what?).

If I was in Pages, I would just select the circle and type "2cm" into the Inspector.

Sorry for the total newbie question :(

assuming cs3 - right click in options toolbar (the bit under menu) where the percentage is, change to cm/pixel or whatever - if you want to keep circle as a circle click the linked button in between the sizes.

Thanks so much!

I thought I'd clicked everything there was to click. I can't believe I didn't try that!

Sorry, one more stupid question...

Now I need to position my circle accurately. To document is 120mm square, and the circle is 119mm across. I need to make sure it is 0.5mm from each edge.

Again, in Pages (which I sometimes use for simple graphics editing) I just select the circle and type the x-y coordinates into "position" in the inspector.

What do I do in photoshop?

same as above but on the 2 boxes to the left (next to the 9 square shape), note you need to take into account the size of the circle.
