Thanks to @akemin_dayo, TotalFinder is now compatible with Apple Silicon and macOS Monterey. Try it out and report any bugs to the discussion thread over at binaryage.com.
akemin_dayo has a good reply to fears of using a Mac with SIP disabled.I loved TotalFinder. But sadly have had to move on. Even if not compatible, the fact you have to operate your Mac in a reduced security mode for TF to work is a non starter for me.
The app is end of life, but another dev, akemin_dayo, has taken upon herself to update it for Big Sur/Monterey and Apple Silicon because she uses the app herself. I'm thankful she's doing this, and I'll continue to use it as long as I can."Please note that while TotalFinder works on Apple Silicon, this is NOT officially supported by BinaryAge, as we have officially announced that we have stopped TotalFinder development."
This alone should make most people skip right over the app.
While she may be updating the app itself, the problems of even installing and using it (disabling the OS security, etc.) will remain because Apple has locked down the methods these apps use to work. For many, just turning off SIP is over their head, for others it's just not something they're willing to do.The app is end of life, but another dev, akemin_dayo, has taken upon herself to update it for Big Sur/Monterey and Apple Silicon because she uses the app herself. You've had to disable SIP with TotalFinder for close to 7 years. Those that find this to be a hassle or uncomfortable operating with SIP turned off stopped using TF a long time ago. While she may be updating the app itself, the problems of even installing and using it (disabling the OS security, etc.) will remain because Apple has locked down the methods these apps use to work. I'll be giving this new version a try, but I wouldn't do it on my main Mac, nor would I advise anyone who isn't an expert at macOS to try it either.
