I got a 16GB iPhone 3GS for my b-day 2 weeks ago. And until today I decided to no jailbreak it. Well today I said why not and went ahead to use Blackra1n. I didnt update it from the box as I knew 3.1.3 is currently unjailbreakable and decided that I may want to JB later on so I played it safe and didnt upgrade. I also know that most 3GSs require a tethered jailbreak, and said if I find it too inconvienient, I'll just restore. So I go to jailbreak, install blackra1n, and cydia. After I do some stuff in Cydia, I restart my phone and to my surprise I didnt have to plug it back into my computer to jailbreak! So now I have a 16GB iPhone 3GS jailbroken and unteathered. Im so happy I just had to share :D Also, how do I find out what week my iPhone was made? :)

Smart choice on waiting.

The fourth and fifth digit of the serial number indicate the week number of the phone. The third digit signifies the year.

Edit: Bah!! latinist is quicker on the draw.

"Also, how do I find out what week my iPhone was made?"

from what i have read, it is the four and fifth digits, respectively, in the serial #. prior to week 40, should not require a tether. let us know what week yours is?

Sorry but I dont follow. If I look at the 4th and 5th digits of the serial, it says 41. So do I have a week 41 iPhone?

What don't you follow? You posted the model number, not the serial number. They are not the same. If the fourth and fifth digits of your serial number are 41, then your phone was made in week 41, near the end of the window but still within it.

Wow if you got it 2 weeks ago and it is a 41 you are lucky. I got mine at the end of November and I was at week 46. Which is only 3 weeks prior to me getting it. Whatever store you got it at must have had a slow period! Congrats and have fun in the jailbroken world.
