Can anyone help and confirm if this is a touch bar bug or not normal?

I have just bought a new 2020 M1 13 MBP with the touch bar. It came with monterey installed. I noticed when I changed the touch bar settings to show quick actions and with the control strip showing, when I then tried to expand the touch bar it disappears.

Went to Apple genius and they said update to Sonoma. That made no difference. There are work arounds, such as using the function key or changing back to showing app controls and not quick actions. If I go back to Apple again, the genius said the next step would be to replace the keyboard and touch bar, as a hardware fault.

However looking online it seems this may be a touch bar bug and a replacement would not fix this. Other reports do not have a fix. Other than expanded quick actions disappearing, the touch bar works fine. I think this maybe a software issue, not hardware.

Can someone with a touch bar kindly test this and let me know if touch bar quick actions can expand as normal.
Please change the touch bar settings to quick actions and see if the control strip disappears when expanded.

Appreciate to know if this is just a touch bar software bug, before doing a hardware repair. As Apple do not sell the touch bar model in store anymore, I could not test and check for myself and the Apple genius said they did not have one in the back office to check and show me. Thanks

Same behavior on my old 2017 MBP with Ventura installed. Looks like it also does the same thing if I have the Touch Bar show Spaces instead of Quick Actions.

I can't even get my Touch Bar to show Quick Actions by itself. (I had to add the Quick Actions button to my Touch Bar, and then use that to show my Quick Actions).

Appreciate your info. I just checked. I changed to show spaces and the touch bar also disappears if I expand. So it disappears if set to quick actions or spaces. Shame, as I like using quick actions. I set the hold function key to show the extended control strip, so I can still use that, after it disappears.
