For about 6 months now my Touch Bar has been dying (going blank and unresponsive) at least once a day. It seems to happen after sleep mode but I can't confirm that 100%.

A restart fixes it every time but is very inconvenient.

If I restart the "Control Strip" process in the Activity Monitor, nothing changes.

If I restart the "TouchBarServer" process in the Activity Monitor, the Touch Bar comes to life and displays the menu, but only dimly and the touch bar remains unresponsive to user input.

Any ideas? Are there other processes which I should restart?

Running MacOS 13.6.1 on a Macbook Pro 2017.

Thats Tim Cook error code for come to the store and spend money. Its hard to say this is gonna be an often occurrence because Apple was selling Touchbar MacBooks up to M2. And those are still selling especially to corporate customers. So, the Touchbar is likely gonna be with us near the end of the decade.

Likely it's hardware failure, take it to Apple have it checked out.

I'm seeing prices of around $500 mentioned for this. Probably more than the machine is worth at this stage. Hoping for a software solution.

@imom See if there's an independent Mac specialist in your area. Apple will just want to replace the top case/Logic Board at significant cost, potentially more than the value of the machine which is part of their game...

Touchbar can be replaced, however is complex and not for the faint of heart. If proved faulty and replaced will be a fraction of Apple's asking price.

Touch Bar is an entire top case replacement. Mine started flashing after 2 years within 2 days of its extended warranty!!! Luckily got it sorted for free - plus an extra year warranty - otherwise it would be in the bin. Not paying hundreds for a repair like that. That said, I love the Touch Bar.

Have a 2017 MBP with the same issue, happens exclusively after waking from sleep. This is unacceptable when it replaces necessary buttons like brightness, volume, instant mute, play/pause and all function keys.
