Sometimes my iPad touch controls lock up for a moment, where no touches register. I don't think it has anything to do with how clean the screen is or what other apps are running. I think its either an inherent glitch in iPad or else my particular iPad has a bad connection or something. I've heard of other iPad owners having this glitch but nobody knows how to fix or work around it. Not a big deal unless you're trying to win games and the controls lock up when you're trying to clutch a win. Would the Genius Bar even look at this if I can't easily reproduce the problem?

What is running in the background. If you have a lot going on in the background it can keep the CPU busy and prevent your touch controls from working. Try shutting other apps down and reboot your device to see if that helps!

It doesn't seem to make a difference what apps are in the background, I can have everything else closed and still lockups. Maybe it has something to do with battery level I'll try to see if it ever locks up when its fully charged. I can go for days without a lockup and then it happens many times in a row. I would think for sure its broken hardware except other people are seeing it. At first I thought it was a glitch in the game but I notice it in other apps.

I had the same problem. And the Apple Store Hannover (Germany) replaced the iPad even though I wasn’t able to reproduce the problem.

I was looking for a thread like this - I was just about to start a new one.

I have been living with this bug for quite some time now, and I *think* it all started with iOS 11.

No matter if you try to drag and drop something or want to type using the screen keyboard. The keyboard is especially annoying since multiple taps are being ignored, resulting in missing characters.

I have had a longer discussion with Apple Support already on this topic, sent them a video of the malfunction and in the end they had me send in the device to check the hardware.

The iPad (it's a 12.9" 2017 model) is being sent back to me right now, because the tech team didn't find any problem.

As Lordcord96 suggests - should I just make a Genius Bar appointment and hope for a replacement?

As soon as I receive the iPad back, I will try and install iOS 12 beta. Perhaps it is some undocumented bug in iOS 11 which caused this. I can't remember having this problem before iOS 11 came out.

There are others who have the same problem... https://de.ifixit.com/Antworten/Ans...touchscreen+is+unresponsive+from+time+to+time

I occasionally experience this as well, however it seems to coincide with my fingers being so dry they don't play nice with the capacitive display.

I thought it was a problem with my hardware but everyone else I talk to who plays pubg on iPad has the same problem. Its not a big deal except for gaming. pubg became full of cheaters so I'm not really gaming anymore.

The non responsive touch happened with me on 10.3 last year six weeks into ownership. Things really escalated with 11.3 and 11.4 though, however I think it was a mix of hardware and software. Apple couldn't find anything wrong with mine either, so I traded it in. Apple said nothing was wrong and wouldn't swap it out.

That's not to say that your Apple store won't swap out. I'd try anyway.
