I'm trying to enable Touch ID for locked notes in the notes app on my Mac. When I tick the check box to enable it it asks me to enter the password for my locked notes. I do that and it says the password is wrong... but it isn't. I can still unlock all my notes with the password, it's only when I enter it in preferences to enable Touch ID that it says it is wrong. I have tried every password I can think of that has been associated with my Apple ID or notes in the past and nothing works.

Any suggestions or is this a bug? Running MacOS 11.2.2

I think it might be asking for your admin password (the one you use to log in your computer).

On my MBP M1, TouchID is just not working to unlock Notes. Same as Apple Watch unlock, which never ever worked on Notes.
On my 2014 iMac, AW unlock for Notes worked flawlessly until macOS 10.15.7, but terminated working with macOS 11 (all Versions). So it's quite obvious this is one of the extremely many persisting and annoying small bugs caused by Big Sur which spoil every single work day.

The prompt is not asking for an account or iCloud password. It's asking for the password you set specifically to unlock notes. Verify your keyboard is set to the correct language, and the caps lock key is off. Then carefully type the password correctly. It should take. If not, try changing the password and then setting up TouchID.
