Touch ID for logging into your Mac

Apologies if already asked, couldn't find a thread discussing it. Someone had posted that iPhone's can now be used with beta 2 as they're required for the auto-unlock feature on the watch. Any truth to this or will Apple make this a watch only feature to sell more watches? Using Touch ID on iOS devices to log into your Mac makes perfect sense, don't know why it wouldn't be offered in addition to traditional passwords.

At this point in time, the watch can only be used.
