This scenario has happened several times. So I record my fingerprint in all the accounts on my 2019 MacBook Pro. Then after several days they stop working reliably despite trying different orientations of my finger on the button. So I have to record new prints, which then work as expected for another few days.

The sensor is not dirty and I doubt my print changes every few days. Anyone else have this issue? Any suggestions as to why it is happening? Thanks.

You don't say if this just started happening recently or has been getting worse over time -- nothing to indicate whether it might be a new mechanical issue.

That said, my wife has the same problem as you on her iPhone SE and our Mac keyboard. We both add fingerprints; mine work fine always, and hers stop working reliably after just a few days. Her fingers simply have become too dry and her fingerprints too faint. There doesn't seem to be much that can be done about it, aside from getting a newer iPhone and having Face ID on Macs (that would be nice!).

I can't say exactly when it started. For sure it's been happening for a few months now and not when the machine was new. The idea of dry fingers being responsible would certainly apply in my case. Thanks.
