I have a 2020 i3 MacBook Air. It had difficulty with Touch ID, even after it had its logic board replaced at the Apple Store. I could change my Touch ID in System Settings, but then the Touch ID would practically never work. Also, when I've shut it off, it boots up when I open the top, without me pressing on the Touch ID button.

Yesterday, after already having wiped the whole memory, I DLed the Ventura OS from scratch. I haven't dared to check the Touch ID yet, but it still has the problem with turning on with little provocation.

Do you think that I have a hardware problem that manifests in two different ways? As I said, I've had the logic board replaced.

The MacBook switching on when you open it is by-design. Also the TouchID button is paired to the MLB so when they replace the logic board they must replace the TouchID.

Statistically unlikely to have the exact same hardware issue with two separate MLB and TouchID.

Thanks for responding! As I said, I had the problem with the Touch ID even after I had the logic board replaced. I concluded that the problem with Touch ID had to do with me, not the laptop.

But I subsequently purchased a replacement M1 MacBook Air (using it to type this!) and it doesn't wake when I don't want it to... and also I have had zero trouble with Touch ID. It has worked every single time, just like I imagined it would before I got a laptop with Touch ID.

None of this would concern me except I wondered whether to lower the price of the older MacBook Air, which I want to sell.
