iPad mini Touch ID stopped working

Doubt I will be able to get to the Apple Store this side of Christmas so thought it was worth a post.

Noticed over the weekend that my Touch ID wasn’t registering a Touch ID input at all, rather than just not recognising a fingerprint. It was enabled, so I deleted the fingerprints and started again. It then works for a short time before the same happens again. If I try to add a print after this without clearing the old ones out, it doesn’t fill the fingerprint area with the usual red lines and just undoes the input after one press on the scanner.

Hope that makes sense - any ideas?

On what kind of iPad is this happening on? Have you tried updating your iPad to the latest version of iPadOS?

Mini 5. Not updated, was trying to avoid iPad OS if at all possible. Thinking it’s a hardware thing and that I’ll end up having to do it before it goes to Apple though.
