Hello guys,

The touch ID on my iPhone 5s drives me crazy the last weeks.
It was working fine for such a long time, no it's behaves as follows:

If I wake the phone by pressing the home button and rest the finger on touch ID it sometimes unlocks the phone as it is supposed to be.

But that isn't always the case. Sometimes it just doesn't detect that there is a finger to be scanned. Nothing happens and there is no jiggle saying it couldn't read the finger properly. If this happens I can only make it work by pressing the home button - then it reads it.
Often times this happens when I swipe a notification to unlock it, always have to press that damn button down.

I already restored the phone once and reconfigured all fingers. Nothing changed.

Do you have any ideas what this could be?

Thank you!!

It's a iOS 9.1/9.2 Bug, only option is to wait till apple fixes it in a 9.2 Beta

What makes you think that? Feel like I'm the only one who complains about this issue.

Thanks!

Actually found some "company" when looking for my problem related to 9.1.

Tried to install 9.2pb4 hoping it would fix it. It doesn't!

Called apple care this evening, they said it sounds like hardware failure, their diagnostic scan didn't show anything unusual.

Just contacted the eBay reseller I bought it from two months ago, maybe he will show goodwill, most likely not.

You are not the first one who showed this problem, and this issue is spread to different devices, (my device is a brand new 6S space gray) i chatted with apple and they ran a diagnostic too and they said my iphone is fine.

Given the diversity of the problem (diferent devices) i strongly believe it's a software bug rather than a hardware failure, anyway they said that if the problem persists after 9.2 official release best thing is to take it to technical service.

Ok, let's hope you are right, thank you, I will wait for 9.2 final.

Yeah, i'm so pissed that the official release it's the same as beta 4... but right now i didn't experienced any problem with touch ID just yet, i restored and set it up as new... if i face the issue again i think i will make a trip to the apple reseller :(

Touch ID in my 6S has never worked well with the thumb and index finger on my right hand... it only recognizes them on the first try about 50-60% of the time. I've deleted and re-scanned these fingers a bunch of times, taking pains to scan all the "edges," etc.; but that has never helped. Touch ID seems to work more consistently with the thumb/finger on my left hand (though not 100%).

Is this the normal error tolerance for TouchID? This is the first iPhone I've owned that includes it, so I have no basis for comparison...

If it doesn't successfully scan, is there that jiggle saying it couldn't read properly or doesn't it do anything like you didn't put a finger on it?

Guess I will bring it to a reseller first, the next Apple Store is one hour away.

If you have dry rough hands/finger tips, it will never work. If you are constantly using your hands and get cuts, blisters or just wear them down again and again, it will never work. If you can enroll your thumb three times on different occasions, then it will work much better. One week enroll your thumb. After another week enroll it again. Third week enroll it again. That way if you mess up your prints or it gets screwed up, you have a good chance that one of those weeks enrolled will work. Then if your thumb reverts to a previous state, that enrolled thumb will work also. Give it a try.

Thanks, will give that a shot.

Touch ID working fine again.

After another apple reseller offered me to swap my iPhone for 370€ he also told me about a phone shop nearby that I should check out. Went there and after 15 minutes and 15€ it's working like a charm.

He opened the iPhone and I think cleaned the connectors or something with alcohol.

Couldn't be happier!
