TouchCast allows you to stream your podcasts directly from your iPhone - no iTunes required. Downloadable via Cydia. Allows for 5 demo tries, then prompts you to pay $3 via Paypal to receive lifetime authorization.

I'm buying this out of principle. This got got screwed by Apple and I say let's reward him for his trouble. I added a feed and it worked great, although I did get one crash when I deleted a feed. Author is advertising free lifetime upgrades, so hopefully he'll keep working on it.

Claims to be the famous rejected Podcaster app - can't verify this, but I hope that's true. Anybody verify this yet?

Great concept, and this definitely is something Apple should have either allowed in the store, or should add to the phone in an update.

Whadda say - let's give the App store some competition!
;)

Update: Man, this registration is a pain. Gotta type in your UUID number from your phone (thanks to Apple for no Cut-Paste). Stupid battery died in the middle and gotta start over AGAIN... Note to author - you gotta fix this process, buddy. Definitely not user-friendly. Gonna hurt your sales, and create some support issues for you, for sure.

Update: Registered and working. I asked the author if he was affiliated with Podcaster. I got a bit of an ambiguous answer, that didn't really answer the question. Hopefully it's not a code ripoff situation. But the app works as advertised. No more taking up lots of storage for podcasts unless you won't have a connection. Just stream 'em!

I just got it off cydia it's sick. Apple are a bunch of creeps for rejecting this. They could have made a lit of money with this app. I just added the ct and jivin show to the app now I don't have to download podcasts and carry around my iPod

No. No no no. No!

First of all, to let you know, I am on the support team for Podcaster, developed by Alex Sokirynsky.

TouchCast is NOT the Cydia version of the now famous Podcaster app!!

This developer is making a knockoff of the real Podcaster. We don't mind this -bit of competition - but claiming to be Podcaster?!?!

Podcaster is alvailable on Cydia now, 14-day trial, to buy is USD $4.99. Not a 5-free thing.

I will be in contact with this developer.....

Interesting... One way or another, glad to hear that Podcaster is surviving as a paid Cydia app. I really think proliferation of paid apps onto Cydia is a good thing for everyone, since you guys are kind of setting up the infrastructure in terms of how to charge, etc, for future developers who have apps rejected by Apple.

How hard was porting it to install and run off Cydia? Is it very easy, or non-trivial? Is anyone working on any kind of toolkit to transform apps developed using the SDK into Cydia apps, or is there such a thing already?

And has Apple threatened to yank your developer license? :p

What in God's name did you just say?

1) Glad to hear the support for Podcaster! It's always appreciated!
2) Funny you should ask this. I'm just a support guy - I know how to use the app to it's full extent. And maybe the odd bug or two. I'm actually not clued-up as to how easy it was. MIND YOU, it took the actual developer, Alex Sokirynsky, just a day to get it from official SDK to the Jailbreak SDK. A few hours to port, then contact ModMyi Source, and upload it.
I don't know what happened in the ease of porting - all I know it was available on Cydia pretty quick after Apple yanked the ability to creat any new AdHoc Licenses (which is what we were doing)

As for Apple terminating the developer license, we've heard nothing from them. We're praying that Uncle Steve doesn't!! :)

Anyway thanks for asking - best get back to supporting users now :)
