Well, looking at my e-mail today, I see a missive (aka, spam!) from Dell about their new Inspiron One 2305 with Touch Screen :

http://www.dell.com/ca/p/inspiron-one-2305-amd/pd?oc=dione23_f_1e&model_id=inspiron-one-2305-amd

The Inspiron One is their answer to the iMac, an all-in-one computer. I guess Apple failed to be first in this segment. However, I agree with Jobs on this one, touch screen computers like this just aren't practical and still require a mouse for any working sessions longer than a few seconds because of arm fatigue.

These never really took off.

There's a reason Apple doesn't make them. If and when Apple decides to make one, it'll be done right.

you do know their is a difference between something down right and gaining traction. Their has been many time when the better product has never gained a footing.

still i do agree that those touch screen monitors suck.

Would love to see the old G4 lamp-style iMac sporting a touch screen for use as an internet appliance, like in the kitchen as the original poster suggested.

^^^ Hell yeah. The G4 tilts up at a good angle for touch, as is. A similar design could expand on the flexibility of that neck for a more pleasant touch UI experience.

Maybe even with a detachable screen.
