Has anyone seen the touchscreen lockup bug on the non-pro iPads?

You mean the ‘touchscreen when playing Pubg on an iPad which has been reported all over Reddit etc and is clearly an issue with the games and not the iPad” bug.

Next time don’t post multiple threads on the same not really a defect, especially if you are going to end up revealing that it’s not actually an iPad issue at all

It’s not a pubg bug its an ipad pro bug and possibly ipad not-pro bug I’m trying to find out.

I had the problem although I do not play any games. The problem occurs even on the iPad’s homescreen.

How about do some research next time , it has nothing to do with pubg and is a defect on pro’s.

I am seeing the problem on my Mini 4 and it has nothing to do with games. It just freezes for a few seconds.

Honestly, the freezing feels similar to what I get on Windows when there's heavy memory swapping.

Funny thing is when I have a mouse connected to the iPad, I can see the cursor moving and I can see the clicking animation but the app (typically Safari) is just completely unresponsive for several seconds.

If the OP means touch irresponsiveness where you have to reboot the iPad when the touch stops responding (regardless of model: iPad, Mini, Air, Pro), then, yes, that shows up on the regular iPad too. It has also occurred on my 8+.

This is why I do not want an A chip (Arm) Mac until Apple fix this issue on the all of the iPads.

So your theory is that touch issues on the display are somehow related to the used processor architecture?

It's a possibility yes. Due to excessive heat generated from the processor architecture this heat may damage the touch sensors in the display. Every iPad I've tried and/or owned since 2017 (all WiFi models and every type) has come up with touch issues and freezes after the iPad became excessively hot.

I’m using IPads ever since they were announced and have not encountered anything of that sort, and I find the theory far fetched to say the least, based on a 10 year span, a dozen or more different models and many many processor generations.

Excessive Heat - what do you do to even produce that in an iPad in a reproducible manner?

Heat is certainly not good for the devices but what’s causing it as I bet the majority of units don’t suffer from heat issues.

Downloading movies via WiFi or using Procreate with the pencil. Not at the same time.

Not heavy multitasking at all.

Many people have had touch problems for a variety of reasons (and Procreate's dev team have no idea why this is happening).

There are many reasons that trigger unresponsive iPads and several threads here.

That's great you've never had issues and I am sure many have not had problems; but the A chips cannot handle everything Apple claims especially with nowhere for that heat to go.

To be forced to quit the app and restart the iPad when the screen stops responding to touch and/or the pencil (no matter the iPad model) is just ridiculous at this point.

I do not abuse my Apple tech, especially my iDevices, given how poorly they are built now.

This all started with the iPad Pros in 2017 when the chassis became thinner, builds change over to glue and A chips became more powerful and generated more heat.

Believe what you want, but it's happening and Apple does not acknowledge it.

I’m aware that many people have issues with intermittent touch or no touch after a while. I’m just not sure the answer is the same for each device.

Both tasks that you mention seem pretty easy for a modern day CPU, especially downloads shouldn’t use much at all.

I think what's going on here is decoding of the high bandwidth video over the wifi. It's definitely a very CPU intensive task, and iPad definitely becomes hotter doing that (just try to decode a 4K video on an older CPU and see how it goes). Procreate can be also CPU intensive depending on the resolution of the image and complexity of the brush. So I agree, Arm issues can play a major role in touch screen problems!
