Hello. I have a iPhone 3GS 16gb. im using 3.0 and my phone is not jb. What happens is, is say I get a text and the slide to unlock screen comes up and I try to but the phone doesn't recognize my finger. I try a few times pushing either the way I usually do or pushing a bit harder trying to get the phone to recognize my touch. Also happens in any app. What I have been doing if I can't get it to respond is put the phone to sleep wait a few seconds hit the sleep/wake button and all is usually good for a while. My question for you all is does this seem like a software bug or a hardware fail? I even did a restore from backup a day or so ago and it did not do this right away but came back.
Thanks for any help anyone can give. Thanks.

This is a common hardware failure. If it occurs very often, then take it in to the Apple Store or call Apple Care and have it replaced.

Since it is jailbroken, you'll have to restore to factory settings to have a valid warranty.

It happened occasionally on my 1st gen, but not too often (maybe once a week). And it rarely happens on my 3GS.

Last night I found out I can't type the letter "R" or type the number "4" (it's the same key) when I'm in portrait mode. My finger is right on the key, and if I try to reapply pressure, only an "E" and "T" come up. When I try to drag my finger across that row of letters, the "R" doesn't come up either. Asked my wife to try it too, and she couldn't get it to type a "R" either. It will type a "R" in landscape mode, just not in portrait. Went to Apple store, the rep that helped me there couldn't do it either. Was told since I ordered it through Apple.com, they could not replace it. Then after I started raising hell, they offered to make a genius bar appointment for Thursday. I wanted to choke this little assistant manager. I left, called Apple Support.

I have a genius bar appointment this morning near my office. Hopefully they will replace this. I'll report back the experience. The experience at the Apple Store near my house has been crap thus far.
