I'm guessing you mean a PowerMac G5.

Apple as far as I know has never run a PowerMac G5/software special. You will have to buy Final Cut Express or Pro off your own bat. But yes, iMovie will work just fine for hobby-level video editing.

Nearly everyone on here who has a Dell monitor says they are great, not as good looking as the ACDs and yes, lacking in a Firewire hub but they are still top-quality monitors.

I doubt the PowerMac's will see an update at MWSF (Jan 10th by the way, not Jan 6th) as they were recently given a massive update to dual-core processors and PCIe architecture. If and when iLife '06 is released, all new Mac's will ship with it and those bought within a certain date range will be eligible for an upgrade via a mail-in redemption scheme.

You have to be enrolled in an approved tertiary institution to get student pricing on Apple purchases. Just look up the list of schools in your chosen postal code.

I'd wait until after MWSF in January - no one knows what to expect anymore.
Better safe than sorry. (After all, it's less than 1 month away)

BTW: MWFS is Jan 9-13, not the 6th ;)

That's good advice, up has been feeling an awful lot like down lately so yeah, wait a couple of weeks and see what's going to happen.

The Keynote's on the 10th isn't it?

Yeah, the 10th is the Big Day! :D :) :D
Here's a Breakdown

I'm actually not sure what happens on the 9th, but that's when the banner says it starts.
