I have been using Mac's for several years. I just replaced my Macbook with the Air. My brother had an Air from the first go around but recently sold it. I did mention to me to always keep the little microfiber cloth on the trackpad when I close the computer as after time it will start to leave marks on the screen. Is this true? Anyone having this problem?

It's probably a good idea, because I couldn't be bothered, and I have lots of black marks on the top of my screen which pissed me off at first, but after a year, I kinda don't care.

I have gotten that black stuff all over my MBA's bezel. It wipes off the display, with the microfiber cloth, just fine but it seems to stick to the bezel. It appears to be the remnants of the aluminum bezel rubbing against the aluminum trackpad button. It looks just like graphite, and it seems to appear from aluminum rubbing against aluminum.

At one point there was a member who said he used a custom microfiber cloth that completely covers the entire top case from the display when closing, and I said that wasn't necessary and was a gimmick. However, I have since changed my opinion, and I agree it's a great way to keep the MBA clean.

If you need to clean it, use some alcohol and the MBA cleaning cloth and it rubs right off the aluminum with almost zero effort. Just be careful to keep it on the bezel and don't get it on the display itself.

I experienced this on my RevA Air, but then a friend told me about the RadTech keyboard protectors - called ScreensavRz - and the sleeves. Once I got one (sized for the MBA) I have had no issues with the little marks. Also, no marks from the keyboard keys on the LCD glass either.

When I got my RevB MBA, I ordered a new radtech ScreensavRz cover as well.

I am not a radtech employee or anything, I just like their products.

Good luck,

I had this problem too. Mine would not rub off, or clean up. I took it to the Apple store and they accused me of dropping it!!!!! Eventually I was able to get the bezel replaced. Since that time I do use a cloth when I have the computer lid closed....so I strongly recommend ordering one. Good luck with your air... They are truly wonderful machines!

This is one of the many hardware defects with the Air that Apple has yet to solve. Hoping it will be fixed (via a glass trackpad) next time around.

Yes the cloth solution will work, but you should not have to do that. It's ridiculous that after three revisions Apple hasn't fixed this (along with the screen lines and hinges).

Nice colors!
I'm not sure if I'll get the classy gra, the flashy pink or the leopard one.
