So I'm using my air today and when I press the trackpad button slightly, it makes a clicking noise... of course, not the click it makes when you fully press it. Hard to explain the sound, but before it really recognizes the function, it makes a sound like an external mouse click. sorry if this doesn't make sense... hard to explain. any help would be appreciated!

my macbook pro (2.16 core duo, 2006 model) is starting to do (what i think is) the same thing. it almost sounds like two clicks when i hit the button. kind of annoying. still works fine though, and I usually use a mouse anyway.

I know exactly what you mean... mine does it on the left side of the trackpad button. Hasn't annoyed me to where I want to take it in.

I thought I read a post where someone DID take it in, and Apple swapped the entire MBA out. Not sure, so you might want to search.

My MBP did the exact same thing. I took it in the the Apple store and they swapped out the entire keyboard, b/c it's all one piece. I didn't mind b/c it was still under warranty. A bit of an annoyance to be without the computer though...

My MacBook trackpad button does this too. Someone on here said it was a result of the battery swelling and pressing against it, this seems right as it doesn't happen until the computer has been in use for about 10 minutes.

I've not had mine repaired, there is no Apple store anywhere near here and I would have to ship it back to Apple. I just have it set so I can "tap" the trackpad to click.

On my SR MBP, I have had the strange clicking from the trackpad button where it feels like there is an extra click. It seems to come and go though. If anyone has a link to a thread regarding this I would be grateful to see it.

i did some searching... after 10 minutes, I found the thread: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/448435/

My problem is that it went away... with my luck it won't happen until i leave the store..

UPDATE: so I went down to apple and showed the geniuses. they agreed and noted down the problems with a recommendation of changing the top case/keyboard. it was sent in for repair and they did indeed change the top case. even better, it only took 5 days to fix from drop off to having it in my hands again. on the down side... i think they jacked up my bottom case. it makes a clicking noise where the bottom case meets the top whenever pressure is put on it, specifically on the side left of the trackpad button.

Meine also had this problem. They changed the top case/keeboard, as in your case. But I don't know. I have another macbook air at home, and it does this high sound out of the box. I assume a lack of quality in this button.:(
