I have an iPad Air 2 that I really no longer use and am thinking of trading it in with Apple. Apple trade in will give me $100. It’s a 128gb air 2. Do you think $100 is a reasonable amount to get for this iPad.

I also have a feeling if I keep it, the value will go down a lot because I feel like iPadOS 16 will no longer support the air 2 as it is an older device. Any thoughts? Thanks.

As is usual with things like this, the answer is.... it depends.

If you have absolutely no need for it, then $100 toward a trade-in is better than it sitting in the closet.

The Air 2 is still a great device and could be repurposed for a specific purpose rather than as general purpose tablet.

eg. My original iPad 1 serves as a dedicated "picture tube" for my vintage TV (replaced the physical picture tube with the iPad 1)

My iPad 2 serves as a dedicated arcade system and sits in my iCade mini cabinet (and also use it with my pinball controller).

Have you seen what Air 2s go for on the used market in your area? You might get a little more than trading in to Apple (if you can deal with the headache of selling it). Either way it sounds like it’s time for you to upgrade.

Sell it yourself. I just sold an Ipad on craigslist in 1 day. Meet in a coffee shop or something like that.

I just traded in my wife's iPad 6th generation for $130 while purchasing a new iPP. It sure is convenient. I might of got a little more but I like the process and no hassel. I also was impressed with iOS 15 and the transfer of data from the old iPad to the new IPP. Instead of signing out of everything, turning off find my iPad, etc. It does it all in the transfer process, no more looking at a list what to do.
