Other Trade in iPhone will not allow use of my Apple Card on my other phone!

I am at the pre-order, select phone, trade in, carrier selection, and payment method (Apple Card) but when I try to confirm the app says that I can't because I don't have the Apple card associated with the trade in phone.

After going thru the Apple Card app, the app says I already have an Apple Card (duh) and to associate the trade in phone with the Apple ID that has the Apple card linked.

I try to change the Apple ID on my trade in phone to the other phone and it says the Apple ID is being used on another account (duh).

I do not want to lose the data or mix data on my other phone which has the Apple card on it...

What do I do ????

That’s a really interesting issue. I wonder why they are being so restrictive like that.

It would be time consuming, but about the only thing I can think of that might work for you would be to:

Back up the phone you want to trade in
Wipe the phone
Set up the phone up as a new phone with the Apple ID associated with your Apple Card
Go through the preorder process
Wipe the phone again
Set up the phone again, restoring the backup that you took in step 1

That was the correct answer - was on the phone with 3 specialists for over an hour!

Yes, pretty good - you should work for Apple.

After an hour trying to figure out how to get the pre-order in using Apple Card from another Apple ID, the rep said:
1. Log out of the trade in phone.
2. Save data from the phone to the cloud.
3. Log in as the Apple Card holder ID.
4. Go into Apple Store app and finish the pre-order.
5. Log out of the Apple ID, log back in as the original Apple ID that belongs on the phone and MERGE data.

Voila worked!
