Hi all, since the announcement of Boot Camp, I've been thinking of trading in my Rev B iMac G5 for an Intel iMac and selling my PC which I would no longer need. I think I can get about $500 or $600 (Canadian) for my PC.
I e-mailed a place in Toronto that deals with used macs, and they said they'd give me $1100 (Canadian) for my iMac. Does that sound like a good deal, or do you think I should be able to get more?
The specs of my iMac are in my signature below.

Is that a 20-inch?

Sounds a little low, as I'd expect for a trade-in, have you tried selling privately?

Yep, that's a 20" alright. I thought it was a little low as well. I know this place has to make money on it when they resell it, but I was hoping for a little more. I haven't tried selling it myself yet.
The benefit of the trade in is that $1100 comes off the price of a new one, so it would be $899 for the new Intel iMac plus tax. Tax on $899 is a lot less than tax on $1999, so I'd be saving money there.
Tax on $899 is $134.85, and tax on $1999 is $299.85, so I'm saving $165 in taxes, which would be like them giving me $1265 for my iMac, which when I put it that way I guess doesn't sound so bad. What do you think?

That sounds like my kinda' thinking :)

How desperate are you to pick up an Intel-iMac? If you can wait a little while, perhaps try selling the iMac privately, see what offers you get - but aim to beat the $1265 you'd get from the trade-in place.

Have you also factored in the cost of a Windows XP disk-set, as I assume you'll be selling your PC with it's copy of Windows?

It's not so much that I'm desperate for the new iMac, just desperate to free up desk space. Two desktops is too much for my liking these days, especially now that one machine can replace both.
The cost of the XP disk isn't a factor, as I have been both a Mac and PC guy for a few years and have an extra XP disk that would stay with me after the PC is sold.
