I recently ordered a new 15" MBA and it's due to arrive sometime next week. I have already checked it out in the store and pretty sure everything will be fine. As part of the order I agreed to a trade in of my old MBP.

What I'm worried about is if I get the new MBA and it just doesn't work out. I know I can return it within 14 days but what about the trade in. If I send it out and then return the MBA will they just finish off the trade in? Or send me my old MBP back?

What if I go and buy an MBP 14" to try and prefer it, can I somehow transfer the trade in from the MBA to the MBP? Or do I have to return both the new MBA and the new MBP, buy another MBP with a trade in of my old MBP?

I really, really hope it doesn't come to any of this, I'm just trying to understand what I can do in such an event. Thanks!

Once you send in the MBP, it’s gone. If you return the MBA you’ll get credit for the cost of the MBA less the trade value.

Do you have a Time Machine backup? You can transfer that to ANY new Mac.

Ok, that's good to know that the trade in works that way.

Yes, I have Time Machine backups of both my Macs. After losing all of my data years ago I always make sure I have backup.

Thanks for your help!

I wouldn't return the trade in until the very last moment. Unfortunately you only have 10 days, minus the shipping time for it to reach the trade-in center. Apple's trade-in partner is not the greatest so if you send it in and want it back don't know if that could or would happen. It is to be avoided if at all possible.

Are you intentionally misleading OP here? You still get the trade-in value back as a gift card, it isn't lost.

It does not. Even though you don't get the trade-in value back onto your credit card, you get a gift card for it and can just order a different Mac with it. You do not lose any money.

Ok. I'll keep this in mind. Thanks!

Thanks for the clarification. I thought that the trade-in value not being given to me didn't sound right.
