I traded in a 12 Pro Max in pristine condition for a 14 Pro Max. I understand there have been multiple threads about how terrible the trade-in company apple uses is, but before you trade in make sure you document your devices condition with photos/videos (with the IMEI/SSID showing as well).

I woke up this morning, checked my email, and finally a trade in value of $133 (down from $530) for a "cracked and scratched display in multiple areas". This was absolutely not the case, as the phone had been in a case and with a screen protector from the moment I had it and looked perfect when I sent it. I called up apple support to inform them of this issue, stating I had proof this wasn't correct. Less than 20 minutes later, they accepted the full trade in value after escalating the issue to the distribution center.

And lesson learned, I will definitely be physically trading in my phone from now on.

I keep reading these horrible experiences, yet the last two times Ive used Apple’s contractor I got full trade in value for phones with very obvious issues (water and screen damage). Maybe I’m just lucky.

that's how I felt since I always do trade-in via mail, but then it happened to me too (though quickly fixed)

Personally I think the 3rd party trade in services that work for Apple, Samsung, are dishonest. At least that was my experience and from what I could see at the time many, many others did as well.

I sent them a pristine phone for trade in some years ago and they “found” these reasons to reject it. Not only that, their policy at the time (this was a Samsung phone) was not to return the rejected phones either. So you were left with nothing.

Filled a complaint with the BBB and eventually they sent the full agreed upon trade in price. I would never take that route again when purchasing a new phone.
