Apple looks like shifting from yearly upgrade to 2 year upgrades incentives for the consumers.

First they gave $790 for 12 PM, then $720 for 13 PM.

Apple were giving more trade-in values for new 13 line-up, which is decreasing for new 14 line-up. On the other hand, Apple seems to be offering more generous trade-in prices for the holders of a phone with more than 1 year after announcement.

Side note for yearly upgraders: You get at least $250 more for Pro max version versus regular base. This means that if your final goal is to upgrade this september, then shift 14 PM - 15 PM is equal to shift Iphone 13/14 - 15 PM.

Math:
Buy 14 now $830 - $470 trade-in + 15 PM $1100 = $1460
Buy 13 now $730 - $320 trade-in + 15 PM $1100 = $1510
Buy 14 PM now $1100 - $720 trade-in + 15 PM $1100 = $1480

Just some 0.02 cents for people searching for a phone.

Keep in my mind Apple had at least 2, if not 3, changes to their trade in values in 2022 all lowering iPhone values. Hard to crunch numbers when it's that volatile.
