i have an iPad 5th gen. Have read rumors that IPad os 17 will not be offered on 5th gen. Should I trade in? Know that I do love this ipad

I also have the iPad 5 (base) and love it. I've kept it on 14 even though it would support 15 and 16. I really don't feel the need to run a later OS as this version is running and working just fine, including performance. I would keep it, unless you feel the need to always be on the latest OS. Plus you wouldn't get all that much for it on trade-in or selling.

If you’re happy with it. I’d just keep using it. You don’t have to update to iPadOS 17 next year. You’ll still get app updates for a few years. I think security updates too. If you feel you must have the latest iPadOS. Get a new iPad when it comes out.
