I have been an apple customer for a very long time since 2004. Bought 3 ipods, 2 macbook pros, 30 inch cinema display, lacie hd and other accessories at the apple store. Got a i7 macbook pro in dec and was really disappointed with the heat coming from the unit. I thought I was going to see a big difference with my non unibody mbp, but it still burns my legs just from watching youtube. I want to know if apple will make it right by letting me trade it in maybe 200 off what i paid for it $2200 for a new Imac 27.

maybe one of the mods can move this to like the community discussion forum since i realized my question was more of a general apple retail question thanks.

Apple will never let you 'trade-in' a computer for another computer.
Especially given you have had it for like 5 months.. a month maybe, but 5 months is too long.

What he said.

If you're looking to get some money for that MBP, sell it then use the money you get towards the iMac.

But if you do decide that Apple is at fault and you march down to an Apple retail store to yell at them, please let me know when you do so I can record the interaction.

sounds as though your mbp is not operating properly. While the bottom gets hot under gaming conditions, watching You Tube shouldn't heat it up. Make an appointment with a genius have it checked out.

thanks for the answers, I think I will just ebay it. I only thought it was possible because my friend went to the store and complained about the same problem and they let him trade his mpb for the imac, but hes a smooth talker and I'm not.

Selling it yourself is probably your best bet. However, have you tried bringing it in for Apple Care service at the very least? I mean, I would hate to be the guy that purchases your MBP with the heat issue.

The only way that I could think that your friend managed to get a trade is that he might have purchased Apple Care with his MBP. Apple tends to entertain Apple Care purchasers a lot easier than non-Apple Care purchasers. Then again, I went in the store with a severely damaged original iPhone and complained about it and they gave me a new one, though I was in the standard warranty period.
