Trading in broken iPhone before/after 3GS release?

The sleep/wake button on my phone kicked the bucket a few weeks ago. I'm still under warranty and everything and I was told I can just trade it in for a replacement. If i wait until the 3GS comes out will I get a 16gig 3GS as a replacement or just an old 16GB 3G if they still have them in stock?

why would they not give you a refurbished 3gs? ive never heard stories from people with laptop problems receiving the older model as a replacement. they always get the new current model. why would the iphone be any different?

Because that's how it is. I had a year old 1st gen iPod touch, that was replaced with the same model. Not a 2G. They aren't going to upgrade you for free, sorry.
