This is probably a dumb question, but if I trade in my Series 5 for a Series 10 I need to reset it etc. before the trade in, right? So will all of the watch settings remain on my phone even though I will have erased everything from the the watch itself so that when I set up the new watch I can still just transfer it over rather than setting it up as a "new watch"?

if you trade-in with Apple, you'll get instructions. The un-pairing process creates a backup of your watch to the phone, which you can use during setup of the new watch.
Personally, I always st up a new AW as "new" so I can go through the various settings, learn about new settings and might change some existing ones.

There are back ups for the watch. Make sure you have one. Also if your trading in in store, and have a model with a cellular option, might make things easier just to reset it while your there. When I traded in my ultra 2 last week they needed the imei number off it. I had already reset it. They were able to get it, not sure how they didn’t tell me how, it just added an extra step to the process.

Thanks. I'll be doing the trade in in the store, so it will be reset before I get there.

Thanks. My watch is GPS. No cellular.

I have always traded in online, but I do believe even for instore trade in you don’t have to turn in your old watch right away, I think you have a week or even a little longer.
So if the Apple Store is not too far away from you, you might want to consider this.

But important, backups are only created at un-pairing. If you really want to restore from your old watch, I’d un-pair, set the old watch up as a restore to see if you really have a valid backup, and then in-pair again. There have been posts reporting trouble …
