Hi,

I'm new here, but I wanted to ask a question.

At home I have a Power Mac G5:

1,8ghz single cpu
1,5 gig ram
geforce fx5200ultra
Bluetooth
Superdrive
airport
160gig HDD

Should I trade it for an iMac 17" G5

1,9ghz
1 gig ram
superdrive
bluetooth
airport
x600 gfx
250gig hdd
isight.

? grtz

I would do it if you do not plan to keep either one of them much longer just because I like all in ones. If you want them to last you a long time, then keep the Power Mac and invest in upgrading the graphics card.

Also what type of monitor do you have?

The PowerMac will last you much longer.

It is upgradable, you can change almost any component you wish (i.e. graphics card) and in my experiece a faster machine.

Plus, you can trade in screens/computers at your leisure to save expense and cost. I just love my tower and after owning an iMac wouldn't now trade it in. :)

Basically the same

1.9 and 1.8 <---you're not going to notice a lot of difference between them really. What you've got with the single 1.8 Powermac is an iMac with better expandability options - this is worth its weight in gold for me...I don't know about you?

How come you're keen to trade - is it just fulfillment of the imac lust? :p

Keep the G5 Tower. Later down the road don't be suprised if you see a 3rd party vendor start making processor upgrades. Expand the Ram and graphics card and you'll see a very nice speed boost in preformance. (Like so many others have said) Expandability is the name of hte game for those Towers :)

Im wanna play wow on my mac but i think the gfx is the bottleneck. I dont wanna spend much euros in it, thats why i have a trade option

With the iMac, you won't be able to change graphics cards, you are stuck with it. With the PowerMac, you can stick some really nice graphics cards in it.

Ya, just keep the powermac, and im not sure if they have it for the G5 yet, but there are websites where you can upgrade the processor, and when the time comes to upgrade the G5, you can get some nice dual core options

Lol but I want something smaller, I know the PM is a great machine ( I bought it secondhand for 600 euro / 650 dollar) And this is my first mac, but I want something more portable and now i can get some more money for it, when the new PM will come , the prices will go down and BLEIH this is **** :p

Whats the resale value of my machine? And is it stupid to get an iBook? Because i dont need a that fast machine. Only using office, itunes, iphoto, textbased html editor, msn, safari, mail and warcraft 3

If it was me, I'd stick with the PM, and completely pimp it out (or buy a MacPro:p ).

Though the iMac has 90 GB extra HDD, iSigh+FR, better GPU, and a 17" screen, the PM has 512 MB more RAM, and can hold 4 or 8 GB, I forget, but I say: Stick with the PM!:D
