Traffic and location

Hi forum,

I have a question: in the system section of locations is a traffic toggle. When this is turned on, is it used in google maps when i use traffic, or does it send my location to provide traffic info?

I'm fairly certain it's sending your location to provide traffic info because sometimes I will randomly see the location icon in the status bar, even while I'm not using the maps app, or any other app that uses my location. When I go to location services in settings to see what's using my location, it's usually traffic.
