If you don't have a 6S or newer, it won't work, which is stupid. My wife is enjoying this feature while I cannot....

It transcribes them, but half of them are wrong. I would like to disable it and just listen to the voicemail how it really is, not how they think that it is. I would hate to miss some important information due to a transcribing error.

Can't you do both?

It does say Transcription Beta. Optimistically, some of the bugs should be ironed out with future updates. Still a great feature, even in the beta stage.

You can even submit your incorrectly transcribed voicemails for improvement of the service if you want.

For those who have used both: How does it compare to the transcription of Google Voice? For me, on GV it was a novelty and good for a few laughs on some transcriptions but it wasn't reliable or accurate. I turned it off.

Google is much better than Apple for voice transcription.

For me, it's on par with, or maybe a little ahead of, where Google transcription was three or four years ago when I first started using it. Google transcription has slowly improved, and I suspect Apple's will, too.

I like the voicemail transcription for when I'm somewhere that I can't listen to a voicemail. But it only gives me a general idea of who is calling and what they may need. The actual transcription is terrible, I have never had one even close to being a decent transcription of the actual voicemail.

It can be useful for things like phone numbers and something similar provided the other person says those things clearly. Also automated calls (like reminders about something or announcements) are usually transcribed fairly well as they are generally well prepared and thus done with more clarity and at a more appropriate pace than just someone leaving a message quickly.

I agree with the phone number part. I hate when people call from one number and ask you to call them from a different one. Half the time I don't even bother calling back :). But now I can just use the number from the transcription to call them back.

For the most part it's very good. I hate listening to voice mails as most are long winded and end up with can you call me at what ever number anyways.

The transcription absolutely murders voicemails from my Dad who has an accent. I wouldn't trust any part of the transcription so I listen to all voicemails just to ensure that I am not missing something.
