transfer 2 files, says copying 1 of 25, etc.

i manually manage my music and movies. when i copy 1 or 2 files from my library to my device, it says its copying more than i specified. sometimes i see other files that i may have transferred previously (a day or two earlier) in the status bar. what's going on ?
