So I downloaded an app, I forget which one, but it was a file management app (Air something).

I downloaded it in the first two weeks when it was free, now it is $4.99

I had removed it from my iphone, but kept it on my computer for later use. Since then I got a new laptop, and synced my phone to it. It was able to get all the applications I had on my phone at the time, but did not have the file app. Now I am wondering if there is some way to get that app again. I don't want to have to pay for it.

If you are signed in with the same account you bought it with. It will be free. You will click "buy" and it will say "you have already purchased this item, it will be free to download again"

You can also click on your account info in tunes to see purchase history...

Well like I said, it was free when I first downloaded it, now it is $4.99

I clicked buy and it says my credit card will be charged, am I sure

I checked my purchase history, and I DID download it, but for free.

Yeah, they really should fix that, I have a heart attack every time I have to redownload a previously purchased app. Click ok on the "your credit card will be charged" message, and you get the "you've already purchased this, download for free?" message.

Yeah, you just have to click it. Like Night Spring said, after that prompt, it will tell you that you already bought it and will ask you if you want to download it again for free. Even though you got the app for free, you technically still "bought" it as evidenced by the invoice they send you for "buying" it.

Manage Apps missing

Why wont apple have a manage library function, which will show
  1. all applications bought with
  2. its price when bought
  3. current price
  4. current version
  5. the cost if you want to buy it today
  6. the cost if you want to upgrade it today
  7. which all authorized computers have downloaded it
  8. how many remaining, before it starts sucking up yr credit card?
  9. simply, a management feature!

I think the only thing we need is a quick list of all apps bought with the current account, and which accounts are authorized for the computer you are on. Price when you bought it and price it is today isn't relevant to whether or not you'll be charged for it, since if you bought it before, you can download it again for free. And there's no "cost if you want to upgrade it today," because the way the app store works now, once you buy an app, you can upgrade it for free forever.

Actually, the only thing that is needed is for the "you own this app already" indicator to be shown when you click on an app in the app store while logged in with the account you purchased it with. Something like if you own the app, instead of the "buy" button, you get a "download again for free" button.
