There is the catch in the title, since most of the tips I found by searching were not useful for me.

Here is the problem, a colleagues needed to replace his old iPhone 5c which was being used as a backup for his work trips (his main phone is an SE) as he needs to use a local sim card.

He got a budget android phone and needs to find a way - maybe using his mac - to transfer contacts to the android phone. Some of the tips involved using icloud or google on the phones but as the screen does not wokr on the 5c this is kind of useless. How can I use iTunes to do this?

The nice thing about both iOS and Android now is you can access your contacts from the cloud and don't actually need the phone.

  1. Go to www.icloud.com in one tab and contacts.google.com in another tab in a browser on a mac or pc
  2. In the iCloud tab, log in with your Apple ID
  3. Click the "contacts" icon
  4. Select all your contacts and click on the "Settings gear"
  5. Select Export Vcard
  6. drag the exported file into Google Contacts
And you're done. Never look back.

Below is how to use iTunes:

decafjava, you can use a 3rd party app as well, if the above for some reason won't work.
One of them. Free trial (transfer 30 items per day in the first 5 days).
Another one. Free. (Backup (Vcard format) the contacts and than import to the Android device).
Bonne chance mon ami!
