Hi all,

I've searched for answers to this question but haven't found anything concrete as yet. I had my iPhone 5 backed up to iTunes on my friend's Macbook. My phone was stolen, but I have a spare iPhone 5 that I would like to restore from the backup of my stolen phone.

Problem is, I am currently in South Africa - with the Macbook that contains the backup - and will go back to Australia where I have the spare iPhone. I cannot take the Macbook with me. I only have a windows laptop in Australia - is it possible to transfer the backup to iTunes on a PC? I know how to find the backup file on the Mac, is it as simple as transferring this to the new computer? And will it work on a PC? Alternatively, is there a way to transfer a local iTunes backup to iCloud?

Thanks

You can't transfer the backup you made to the MacBook to your PC as the format is different. And as far as I know, you can not transfer a backup made to the MacBook to iCloud. What you might try is copy the backup from the MacBook in S. Africa and then borrow a Mac when you get home and try restoring that way. If you had made your original backup to iCloud, then it would be possible to restore from iCloud when you got home. Maybe someone else has some better ideas and advice.

Thanks for the info. My main concern was whether the backup to the macbook would be compatible with PC. I have a friend with a Mac in Australia so I will see if I can use that to do the restore. Thanks!
